Dr. Jodi Stanley, Psy.D., LMFT

I grew up in a small town in Northern California. I was excited to spread my wings and begin life in the “city” as I moved to UC Santa Barbara in 1999 to pursue my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. As a part of this degree, I had the incredible experience of studying abroad at the University of Sydney, Australia, an opportunity that provided me with a more diverse and intensive understanding of human psychology, as well as a personal understanding of the challenges of change and living in an unfamiliar culture.

My intrigue for relational dynamics grew throughout my undergraduate studies, and led me to pursue Marriage and Family Therapy as the emphasis for my graduate degrees. I achieved my Master of Arts degree in 2005 and accredited Doctor of Psychology degree in 2008 at Alliant International University.

Through my education and extended training, I gained an in-depth knowledge of relational systems and I had the opportunity of working with a variety of clients in many different settings, including San Diego Center for Children and Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital. I have worked extensively with individuals, couples, families, children, and adolescents struggling with issues such as depression, anxiety, anger, trauma, feelings of low self-esteem, relational distress with couples and families, parenting, co-parenting, divorce, childhood behavioral and emotional distress, chronic mental illness, domestic violence, and addictions.

In 2008 I fulfilled my dream of becoming a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and I opened my private practice. I experience genuine joy and fulfillment in helping couples and families to overcome relational disconnection, to rebuild and strengthen their attachment bonds, and to be more open and responsive with each other. I also specialize in supporting individuals, including, children, adolescents, and adults, who are struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, trauma and low self-esteem. My goal as a therapist is to work collaboratively with my clients to create a felt sense of safety, clarity, direction, and quality of life. I provide neutral support, guidance, and relief to develop healthy ways of coping, to expand inner growth, and to restore relational bonds.

I utilize the highly effective methods of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP). I have consistently experienced success with these techniques in helping clients achieve emotional healing and break free from negative interaction patterns, strengthen relationships, and to live a life of greater meaning and success.

Additionally, I am an AAMFT approved supervisor. I am immensely invested in mentoring and supervising therapists that are new to the field.

Personally, I am equally passionate about being a wife and mother of two young children. Through these life experiences, I have gained an understanding of the joys and struggles that accompany marriage and parenthood, which has supported my ability to empathize with the challenges my clients endure.

I am deeply passionate about mental health and the beauty of relationships. I view all persons as capable of being in a healthy relationship with themselves and others. I seek to meet each client where they are at, with the belief that healing occurs when compassion, understanding, and empathy are met with self-love. I value diversity, equity, and inclusion. I welcome and support clients of all identities and backgrounds.

Prior to pursing a career in mental health, I earned a Masters degree in Education from Johns Hopkins University and was a middle school teacher on the island of Oahu and the Bronx, NY. I also had the experience of managing a team at an education tech startup company where I incorporated mindfulness techniques to advance team member performance. Additionally, I became a registered yoga teacher and learned the significance of nature and movement as healing tools.

Through these experiences, I identified the importance of relationships in an individual’s success in all aspects of life. This led me to obtain a Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Bellevue University. I completed my Masters internship at Renova San Diego, where I provided individual, couple, and family therapy to a diverse clientele. Here, I had the privilege of engaging in advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) from many of the top leaders in the field. I also received education and experience in the therapeutic approaches of child-centered therapy, mindfulness, and Internal Family Systems. Furthermore, I have developed an emphasis in holistic wellness and integrative nutrition.

Now, as an Associate Professional Clinical Counselor, I strive to partner with clients to build strong, healthy, and lasting relationships. I am dedicated to empowering my clients to become their best selves through learning insights and gaining applicable tools for wellness. I would be honored to guide you in your journey to personal and relational betterment.
